Guan Chong Berhad ( GCB) was incorporated in Malaysia as a public listed company on 22nd March 2004. GCB is an investment holding company, started with 3 subsidiaries namely, Guan Chong Cocoa Manufacturer ( GCCM ) , Guan Chong Trading ( GCT) and Enrich Mix ( EM ). The Group is principally involved in the manufacturing of cocoa-derived food ingredients, namely cocoa mass, cocoa butter , cocoa cake and cocoa powder. To date, the Group has diversified their business from producing cocoa – derived food ingredients to the consumer downstream.

The Group’s history started in early 1980’s which was principally involved in trading of cocoa beans. In 1983, it started processing cocoa beans by setting up a factory in Parit Jawa , Muar, Johor. In 1990, with the vision to become a market leader in the local cocoa processing industry, the management sold the plant in Parit Jawa and built a new plant in the Pasir Gudang Industrial area under the Group subsidiary, Guan Chong Cocoa Manufacturer Sdn. Bhd. Initially, the new plant started off with about 6000mt of bean grinding and through years of upgrading and the spirit of continuous improvement, today, Guan Chong Cocoa Manufacturer is proud to be one of the top cocoa processors in Malaysia with the capacity touching 80,000mt. Our cocoa products gained wide acceptance from both local & international market.

In 2006, the Group made a great progress in expanding its global reach by acquiring 49% stake in Carlyle Cocoa Co., LLC , Delaware through its wholly owned subsidiary GCB America, Inc. It provided the group a direct market access into the United States. The Group will continue to strengthen its foothold in the cocoa sector by seeking opportunities such as this with other partners in Europe and South America.

Besides in the grinding arena, the group is also involved in other cocoa related industries like the blending and mixing division which produces sugar cocoa preparation. Enrich Mix, the group’s subsidiary involved in the production of blended cocoa-derived food ingredients with Japan as its principal market. Besides that the group’s subsidiary has reached out to end users by producing chocolate & chocolate beverages under the new consumer food division, GCB Foods. GCB Foods entered its full fledge operations in 2007 after a great deal of effort in factory built up, machineries installation and recipes development. Their brand CacaoRich and Melko have been created and the brand awareness has been increasing via creative product innovation and marketing activities. This company is also actively involved in doing private brands for hypermarkets.

In late 2009, the group made an aggressive move by acquiring Specialty Chocolates Sdn Bhd, This business acquisition aimed for the Group to penetrate the confectionery market in an effective manner by tapping into Specialty Chocolates technical know-how and marketing distribution network. GCB Specialty Chocolates Sdn. Bhd. ( GCBSC) was incorporated in late 2009, will aim to become of the major suppliers of industrial chocolates to both local & international market under the flagship “Favorich”.

In April 2010, GCB Cocoa Singapore Pte Ltd, ( GCBCS) the group wholly owned subsidiary was incorporated which will act as a procurement, marketing and trading for both the cocoa grinding factories in Pasir Gudang and Batam. This company is a member of the Global Trader Programme under the International Enterprise Singapore.

With the growing demand and support from customers, the group expanded their capacity by setting up a second grinding plant in Batam in Indonesia. This new plant, proudly named as PT Asia Cocoa Indonesia ( PT ACI ) started commissioning in July 2011 .This new plant boasts of an initial annual grinding capacity of 60,000 tonnes, increasing the group’s total production by 75 per cent to 140,000 tonnes a year.
